1970
Motor Trend Import Car of the Year
Stage 2 – Getting the car running.
"1970
Import Car Of The Year" by MotorTrend. June
1970. Read the reprint article
here. This car was
awarded to Mr. Crump in 1970. Automobile Atlanta
currently
owns
this car
and is
preparing it for our collection in our museum.
Our plan for
this special 914 is to restore this car to concourse
perfection duplicate (with Motor
Trends permission!)
the original door stickers as seen
in the picture, and park this car in our show room for one and all to see.
However we are going to go about this one a little differently
than our regular comprehensive restorations as the car needs
more of a freshening than a full
restoration.
We
begin as we would with any 914 that is still an assembled
car by getting it running first so we can check all systems.
Pulling and cleaning the gas tank is a necessity as well
as blowing the gas line clean, and installing new lower
fuel lines, strainer sock fuel filter, and bench testing
the fuel pump.
Our
excellent gas tank cleaning/restoration kit does a great
job on the tank. You can instantly tell if the gas is bad
because it will smell like shellac. Next, Lower fuel
line kit, Strainer sock, Fuel filter, Por 15 gas tank
restoration kit.
