Weekend Ten

So the Extreme Project stalled out for a while. As any 914er, I'm trying to cut cost and save money every step of the way while getting the best job possible. I sent the car to an expert painter of ours. Well, he got caught up in some higher paying work and put me off and put me off. Then he began having some personal problems and to make a long story short - I have the car back with only some minor work done. What a dissappointment of time wasted.

Meanwhile, I got the first set of door panels back with Porsche fabric. These are close to the Porsche 916 door panels only done on angle. A great reproduction, quality door panel. I think with the new sport seats, this is going to be a sharp look. See more about owning either left door panel or right door panel.

Another last minute decision has been the outside mirror. Originally I was going to just put factory mirrors on both sides of the car. Then, since the paint failed the first time I went back to the drawing board and decided I would put 993 Aero mirror kit on the 914. I had seen them on my buddy Dave's car and after staring at them and learning how to install them, we are going to add them to the extreme. We are also working on an installation process to make the mirror addition easy.

I've called in another favor and have another terrific body man working on the 914. His name is Kim. I didn't use him in the first place because he is like a picky old lady and will not be happy unless everything is perfect. Some think this is good because of the superior job, others will know this just means more money. But, the job will be the best we can get. Kim has stripped off the primer we used to cover the bear metal. He has moved the car into his shop and will start smoothing the fenders.
Kim is working quickly as you can see. The front fenders are smoothing out nicely. Very even and original looking. It is amazing what a good mud man can do.
There was a little rust in the hood channel that Kim made the decision on his own to correct. Nice of him I thought.
