Weekend Six

We spent this Weekend in research mode, waiting for parts to come in. On the above ralley GT when the hood is closed you can see how the aluminum fuel cap appears through the hood. We're thinking this is a good idea for our makeover car. This is very handy for filling the car if hood pins adorn the hood as they will in our XTRM case. This appearance of the aluminum cap came in several incarnations. This type was mostly on the rally cars and included the optional 100 liter gas tank that was discontinued in 1983 by Porsche.

One reason not to install the long discontinued 100 liter gas tank is that it means cutting into the bulkhead for proper installation. Why do that when it doesn't even offer FUEL CELL protection? The only reason to go to this length is if you're determined to re-create a 914-6 GT Rally Car. As you can further see from the bar installed across the top of the tank, taking out the bulkhead will mean reinforcement in other areas to compensate.

Some of the six racers opted for the lower filler neck on the tank. This idea is closer to our XTRM design only we'll keep our original tank installed.

.

As you can see the 914-6 GT race cars had a hole in the hood with a rubber gasket that allowed for filling the tank without removal of the hood. When closed, the cap was exposed. The cap was larger than on the six and the four cylinder cars, made of aluminum and had a t-handle top. I want to create this same look on our XTRM car.

The hole in the hood can easily work on any conversion given that there is a drainage system built right into your existing gas tank, whether you have a four or six.

Our Toyo T1-S Proxes tires came in this Weekend. These 205/50 17 255/40 17 are going to look great on our new Kenesis rims. These Toyos top of the line street tires that are also used on SCCA speedvision touring class road race. They are so good they use them on the street and to race. Email McClean for tire availability. He's our tire expert.
