Weekend Nine

The engine heads were ported and polished. Rotating assembly is balanced, rods ARP bolted, bushed, resized and balanced. The flywheel has been lightened, cylinders bored, and pistons & rings finally arrived and were installed in the cylinder linings, and we also added main bearings to the engine(.025mm).

A high performance camshaft kit was installed. It includes new billet camshaft, gear, special lifters designed for especially for the camshaft, and cam gear bolts. This cam is the highest performance cam you will be able to run in the 914 2.0L engine and still use the factory fuel injection with no modification. This application is reccomended for those who drive fast and want to get all the horsepower and torque available. Before you could only get this power out of a six. These products will leave any stock 914-6s in the dust. See more about the Cam and Lifter kit.

Len, our machinist, preped the cylinders for the 96mm Keith Black piston kit which includes the pistons,
pins, and rings. The rotating assembly was balanced, the flywheel was lightened by 3 lbs, and each crank gear was removed and the main bearing installed. The crank was polished. Len later proceded to resize & re-bush the connecting rods including ARP bolts. We added four 44mm stainless intake valves to the head, 38mm stainless exhaust with 8mm stems, 8 hardened Valve seats, and 8 tapered valve guides. Len also added 8 high density rocker studs, stainless exhaust studs; the heads port & polished and flycut with .050 step (make sure not to use head gaskets); balanced combustion chambers 58.5cc with step machine second temp. sensor boss.

Don't forget the Stage 2 Spec clutch. Of course the pressure plate, flywheel and crank were all matched and balanced together for the best possible performance from this 4 cylinder engine.

Len machined the blank head temperature sensor boss on cylinder 2 so we can install a temp sensor in this position, as well as the original postion #3. This will trick the brain into thinking the engine is cooler than it really is so it will run richer, make more power and run a little cooler. If we want we can install a sensor in both bosses then experiment with it. We might install a switch in order to activate on the fly to get a feel for how much difference it really makes. The bottom end is done!! Mike, one of our expert technicians at AutoAtlanta, is quickly putting it together and we expect to hear a familar, yet more powerful, exhaust note soon.

The Kinesis wheels arrived and had Toyo tires mounted by our local tire and alignment friends. With every upgrade to the engine and the future suspension upgrades, we wanted to go with a high performance tire to match. In the front we're using 205/50 ZR17 tires and in the rear there are 255/40 ZR17s. This is the exact same size tire that came stock on the 993.

You can order these Kinesis wheel combination by clicking here. The Extreme car should be back shortly so we can see them on the car itself. If you are interested in the wheel and tire package altogether, please click here.
