Over the years we at Automobile Atlanta, your 914 World headquarters, have repaired numerous rusted 914s and always done a through job thanks to the wealth of rust repair panels we have made available to the market.

Often asked for a "Rust Repair Manual", thanks to the internet we are now able to document our work for you our fellow enthusiasts. What follows is a thoroughly captioned series of photos that well document a typical procedure.

This 914 is rusted in all of the typical areas but not a car that is in our opinion badly rusted! Although your particular car may vary slightly in dimension the repair procedure is the same.

Left jack post rustout.
Right jack post, rusted out most probably from debris packing behind the rocker panel. A good reason to clean under the rocker panels each month!
Right, front sill rust.
Holes in the back of the passenger front wheel well just in front of the rocker panel.
Holes in the passenger right front wheel well.
Large rusted hole in the bottom of the driver's front inner fender well at the rear and in front of the rocker panel.
Poor oversprayed repaint, rust through on the bottom of the driver's front fender and some rust out on the bottom of the door.
Right rear inner wheel house rust out behind the jack post.
Driver's front rocker rust where the gas fume recirculation tubes enter the rocker panel.
Poorly patched left jeck post with almost none of the jack support remaining.
Rust holes in the passenger inner suspension member. A serous safety problem. We have seen many of these 914s actually lose the right rear suspension and tire as the assembly breaks away from the rust out!
This is a shot peering forward into the passenger right rear whee well showing the inner fender rust out and the home made bracket bolts to seure the home made battery tray.
Ridiculous rig-up of the fuel pump mounting!
Typical home-made rig-up of the battery tray and the fuel pump mounting area. Why not just do it right the first time?!? The picture shows that the engine shelf is rusted out and so is the inner passenger fender well!
Rusted out driver's front engine compartment near where the relay board mounts. This is front standing water and a clogged engine compartment drain. It is very important t clean the engine compartment drains monthly. Also note the ground connection. This grounds the rear lighting and also the fuel pump. Imagine the extra resistance this rusted ground would provide. No wonder the rear lighting is dim!
Another shot of a terribly made battery mount with the corny fuel pump mount showing through a rust hole in the passenger side engine shelf.
This picture shows the passenger front engine compartment with the rust holes in the right and forward fire walls.
Badly rusted driver's firewall from a loose water soaked engine insulator pad.
Hard to see rust bubbles on top of the passenger quarter panel near the black vinyl roll bar covering.

Left rear rusted jack post and support with a nicely fabricated part to patch the right longitudinal.
Rust holes in the left driver's front inner wheel well.
